  • Part 1: Layout Basics
    The first part covers how library technology is used with layout and the basic features of the ADS layout windows, drawing tools, LVS, and more. This topics and skills apply to both MMIC and RF Board Designers.
    The Lab video demonstrates Settings and drawing tools in the layout window that apply to both board and MMIC designers. Its objectives is helping you to be able to set layout preferences and technology and use basic drawing features and commands for board or IC design. More details are as follows:
    Create a workspace and layout
    Examine technology and preferences
    Set up Hot Keys
    Generate a layout from schematics – use LVS
    Draw and edit shapes and components
    Properties, navigator, layers
    Creating a via with layer binding
    Use connectivity and other tools and more
    Create a clearance

    Part 2: Basics of EM Simulation
    The second part focuses no ADS Momentum. It covers the EM user interface, including basic substrate setup, layer, via mapping, simulation setup, and more.
    This Lab video will cover all the basics of EM and simulation. It will also cover some use of the technology file, layout, ports, and other features of the EM setup requirements. More details are as follows:
    Create a workspace and layout
    Define materials in the Technology file
    Draw two lines with via to connect them
    Add a new substrate and map layers
    3D Preview Setup the EM simulation
    Define the ports and other settings
    View the data and current visualization
    Optional: meshing the look-alike component

    Part 3: Layout and EM Techniques
    This third part covers two topics: both details about Layout drawing and Momentum EM simulation, with an emphasis on techniques that you can use on your designs. There also are two labs for part 3. One for Layout and one for Momentum.
    The details for layout Lab demo is as follows:
    Create a workspace and layout
    Build a fixed artwork capacitor
    Build an amplifier layout
    Identify component layers, pins, etc.
    Use Trace, Paths, Transmission Lines
    Use automatic via stitching
    Use DRC and create a schematic
    The details for Momentum Lab demo is as follows:
    Create a new workspace
    Simulate a DemoKit inductor
    Copy a substrate and define thick metal
    Specify a mesh and use RF mode
    Create an emModel and look-alike symbol
    Compare circuit simulator results to EM
    Visualize the current
    Optional: FEM example
